PepsiCo: Saving Water in Colombia

Watch Video

PepsiCo’s foods facility in Funza, Colombia is one example of how PepsiCo is implementing innovative solutions to conserve water.

A water reclamation system using a specialized membrane bioreactor and a low-pressure reverse osmosis unit allows the Funza plant to reuse 75 percent of the water entering the facility.

By implementing this technology, the plant was able to reduce water use by 90 million liters in 2012.

Around the world PepsiCo has made significant progress reducing water use in our direct operations.  In fact, the company achieved its goal, four years ahead of schedule, to improve global operational water-use efficiency by 20 percent per unit of production by 2015, compared to a 2006 baseline.

By implementing efficiency improvements, PepsiCo saved nearly 14 billion liters of water globally in its direct operations in 2012, which allowed the company to save more than $15 million in water costs.
